The PlayStation Store: Apple Pay, phone-bill payments and a strict refund rule
Sony takes the widest range of payment methods of any console shop, including Apple Pay and phone-bill payments. Its refund rule is the strictest on our list: once a download starts, the sale is usually final.
Cards (including American Express and Maestro), PayPal, Apple Pay, EE, O2 and Three phone billing, paysafecard and gift cards. Refunds only before a download begins, and within a fortnight.

Wallet and gift cards
Money in your PlayStation wallet is used before any saved card. Money added to the wallet cannot be reversed, so top up by the amount of the thing you are buying. A child's account has no balance of its own. It draws on the family manager's funds, capped each month at a figure the manager chooses, and that cap is zero until it is changed.
Refunds and cancellation
Sony will cancel a game or add-on bought in the last fortnight, but not once a download or stream has begun; from then on only a fault earns a refund. Automatic downloads count as starting, so switch them off if you might change your mind. Items bought inside a game cannot be refunded unless faulty.
PlayStation Plus can be cancelled for a refund within 14 days of first paying, possibly reduced for the time used. After that, turning off auto-renew only stops the next payment.
Pre-orders
Payment is taken the moment you pre-order. Order earlier than two weeks before launch and you may cancel right up to release day; order later and your window is a fortnight from paying. Either way, cancelling is not possible once the pre-load has started.
PlayStation Plus prices
Essential is £7.99 a month, £21.99 for three months or £59.99 a year. Extra is £11.99, £34.99 or £99.99, and Premium £14.99, £43.99 or £119.99. All tiers renew automatically until you cancel in your account's subscription settings.
Family controls
On the web or on the console, the family manager chooses how much each child may spend per month. Adults can turn on 'Require password at checkout', and two-step verification protects sign-in.
