Assassin's Creed Shadows: from £49.99, and rarely worth full price
A handsome open world set in feudal Japan, sold almost everywhere at almost every price. It is also the game on our list where the checkout needs the most care: editions, a separate currency, a subscription and frequent sales.

Where to buy Assassin's Creed Shadows and how to pay
The standard edition costs £59.99 on PC (Ubisoft Store, Steam, Epic and the Microsoft Store) and on the Mac App Store, £69.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and £49.99 on Switch 2. The Digital Deluxe (£74.99 on PC) adds cosmetic gear and a mount; the Premium Edition (£94.99 on PC, £104.99 on console) adds the Claws of Awaji expansion, which also sells alone for £20.99.
Every version needs a Ubisoft account, and PC copies bought on Steam or Epic still install through the Ubisoft Connect app. Ubisoft released the final content update in June 2026, so the game is now complete.

Sales end on different days: 1 October on Steam and Epic, 7 October on PlayStation and Switch 2, 8 October on Microsoft and Xbox and 13 October on the Ubisoft Store. On PC the standard edition is about £24 in those sales.
Subscriptions that include it
Ubisoft+ Premium includes the game on PC and Xbox for £14.99 a month or £149.99 a year, along with Ubisoft's other new releases and member discounts. The main story takes most players over 30 hours, so one or two months of Ubisoft+ can cost less than buying at full price, though a sale price beats both.

In-game money: Helix Credits
Helix Credits buy cosmetic gear, mounts, hideout decorations and time-savers in the in-game store. Packs cost £3.99 for 500, £7.99 for 1,050, £15.99 for 2,300, £28.99 for 4,200 and £39.99 for 6,600, the same on the Ubisoft Store and PlayStation. Every item is fixed and named.
One oddity to avoid: the £28.99 Premium Starter Pack contains the same 4,200 credits as the £28.99 credits pack, plus two weapons and some mastery points. If you are buying 4,200 credits anyway, the starter pack gives more for the money.

What you are paying for
Sixteenth-century Japan, seen through two characters: Naoe, a stealthy shinobi with a grappling hook, and Yasuke, a samurai who solves problems head-on. Seasons change the world as you play, you build up a hideout, and a scouting system replaces the usual map markers if you choose.
HowLongToBeat players report about 36 hours for the story and close to 100 for everything; the Claws of Awaji expansion adds about eight. It is single-player only, with separate difficulty settings for combat and stealth. On PC it needs an SSD and around 115 GB of space.
