Where to buy Terraria and how to pay

Terraria is one of the few games where the platform decides the price far more than the edition. On PC it is £6.99 on GOG (DRM-free, no launcher needed) or £8.50 on Steam, which also covers Mac and Linux. The phone versions are £4.99 on the App Store and £4.59 on Google Play. Consoles cost more: £12.99 on PlayStation, £13.59 on Xbox and £24.99 on Switch, nearly three times the Steam price for the same content.

Steam also sells a four-pack for £24.99, which gives you three copies to hand to friends. The only add-ons anywhere are two soundtrack albums at £4.29 each; nothing is on sale inside the game.

Each platform is a separate purchase with no cross-buy or shared progress. The console versions run on PS5, Xbox Series and Switch 2 through backward compatibility, with no upgrade to pay for.

Subscriptions that include it

The PS4 edition is in the PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue and the Xbox edition is in console Game Pass, so subscribers can play without buying. Given the PC price, buying outright is better value if you expect to play for more than a month. PlayStation and Xbox also list free trials.

What you are paying for

A two-dimensional world generated fresh for each game, which you dig into, build on and gradually conquer. Crafting better gear lets you reach deeper layers and face bosses, and beating a certain boss turns the whole world harder and richer. Four world difficulties run from a creative-style Journey mode to Master, and characters can play with permanent death if you want every fall to count.

HowLongToBeat players report around 52 hours to reach the main goals and 205 hours to do everything, and many people play far longer with friends. Online co-op is supported on every platform, PC players can host their own servers, and free mods run through the separate tModLoader app on Steam.

Update 1.4.5 arrived on every platform in January 2026, reworking crafting and inventory, and Re-Logic marked the game's fifteenth anniversary in May 2026 by saying player support lets it keep updating without price rises or microtransactions.

Which platform to pick

If you have any computer made in the last decade, buy it on PC: the requirements are tiny and the price is lowest. Consoles and PCs cannot yet play together, and progress does not transfer between platforms, so pick the one your friends use. Wider cross-play is planned for the next update, 1.4.6, but has no date.
