Game Pass, PS Plus, Ubisoft+ and Switch Online: prices and which of our twelve they cover
A month of a subscription can be the cheapest way into a big game. It can also quietly renew for years. Here are the plans that cover our twelve games, with UK prices and how to stop them.

PlayStation Plus
Essential is the tier that unlocks online play on PS4 and PS5; it includes none of our twelve in its catalogue. Extra and Premium add the Game Catalogue, which currently holds three of them: Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, the Skyrim Special Edition and Terraria. Longer plans cost less per month (Extra is £34.99 for three months or £99.99 for a year).
Games from the catalogue stay playable only while you subscribe. Sony's UK policy gives a refund if you cancel within 14 days of the first payment, and trial days count inside those 14 days.
Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass
Microsoft renamed its tiers in 2025. Essential covers online multiplayer on Xbox and a small library; Premium adds the main console library; Ultimate adds everything including the PC library and cloud play. PC Game Pass is the PC-only plan. Of our twelve, Age of Empires II: DE, the Skyrim Special Edition and the Diablo IV base game are in PC Game Pass and Premium, and Terraria is in the console library. Expansions and newer add-ons are sold separately, sometimes with a member discount.
Microsoft's UK subscription rules are the most generous on our list: cancel within 30 days of first paying for a refund, and you can also claim back one recent renewal per subscription if you cancel within 30 days of that charge. New members can currently try Essential or Premium for £1 for 14 days, after which the normal price applies.
Ubisoft+
Premium is the tier with Ubisoft's new releases, including Assassin's Creed Shadows, on PC and Xbox, plus member discounts. Classics is a cheaper back-catalogue plan that does not include Shadows.
Nintendo Switch Online
Nintendo's plan matters to our list only because online multiplayer on Switch needs it: Factorio and Terraria both require it for online games. Automatic renewal is off unless you turn it on, and it is not available to under-18s. The Expansion Pack tier (£34.99 a year) adds older console games that none of our twelve depend on.
Work out how long you will realistically play. A plan at around £10 to £15 a month beats buying outright only if you finish within a few months, and anything you have not finished goes when the plan ends. Set a calendar reminder for the day before it renews. Our buy-or-subscribe calculator does the sums for six of our games.
