Where to buy Resident Evil 4 and how to pay

The standard game is £34.99 on Steam and the PlayStation Store, where one purchase gives you both the PS4 and PS5 versions. The Xbox Store currently charges £32.98 for Series X|S. The Gold Edition adds the Separate Ways expansion and the Extra DLC Pack of costumes and cosmetic extras: £44.98 on Steam, £44.99 on PlayStation and £39.98 on Xbox.

On iPhone, iPad and Mac the app downloads free with a short playable section, then asks £54.99 to unlock the full game. That is the dearest way in, and it needs a recent device (an A17 Pro chip or an M1 Mac or newer).

A Switch 2 Gold Edition arrives on 16 October 2026 at £44.99, with a pre-order price of £35.99 until 15 October.

Subscriptions that include it

Neither Game Pass nor the PlayStation Plus catalogue carries Resident Evil 4 right now, so you have to buy it. Capcom discounts its back catalogue regularly; if you are happy to wait, a sale is likely to come round.

What you are paying for

Agent Leon Kennedy travels to a hostile village in rural Spain to find the President's kidnapped daughter. The remake keeps the original's over-the-shoulder shooting and adds knife parries, stealth and a sharper sense of dread. A travelling Merchant buys, sells and upgrades your weapons for the game's own currency, Pesetas, found as you play.

Players on HowLongToBeat report around 16 hours for the story, 22 with side requests and about 65 to finish everything. Separate Ways, told from Ada Wong's side, adds about five hours. There is no online requirement, and The Mercenaries score-attack mode and a PS VR2 mode on PS5 arrived as free updates.

The upgrade tickets, explained

Two weeks after launch Capcom began selling Weapon Exclusive Upgrade Tickets: £2.49 for one, £5.78 for three or £7.99 for five on Steam. A ticket unlocks a weapon's final special upgrade without first upgrading it fully with Pesetas. It saves grinding; it does not unlock anything you cannot reach by playing.

Capcom also sells small perk items for 79p to 89p, such as a gold attaché case that makes enemies drop more Pesetas. Like the tickets, they are optional, and the game is tuned so that you never need them. We knock points off price honesty because shortcuts sold beside a full-price game nudge players to spend again.

Gold Edition or standard?

Separate Ways costs £7.99 on its own and the Extra DLC Pack £15.99, so the Gold Edition saves money only if you want both. If you care about the story rather than costumes, buy the standard game and add Separate Ways later. Steam's own Gold Edition page warns that its contents are also sold separately, so check you do not already own a part before buying the bundle.
